Two cases of monkeypox confirmed in the state

The Cherokee County Health Department is continuing to work closely with the N.C. Department of Health & Human Services after two positive cases of monkeypox were confirmed within the state. The rare, but potentially serious virus has been reported in Haywood County, according to a release from Health Director David Badger. At this time, he said there is no significant risk identified for the public. Haywood public health officials have been working closely with the DHHS to identify potential contacts. The individual is isolating at home.

MEANWHILE…

Health officials are also on high alert after a second case of monkeypox in North Carolina was reported in Mecklenburg County, a couple hours west of Haywood. DHHS is recieving updates on all aspects of prevention, treatment, spread and risk factors identified by the CDC, the release stated.
