HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – A Haywood County man will spend more than a decade behind bars for a fatal shooting two years ago. Kevin Carey has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the death of Brandon Carter, 24, of Canton, on May 4, 2020, at a home in the Shadow Woods subdivision off Ratcliff Cove Road. Carey, who was 18 at the time of the shooting, was recently sentenced to at least 17 years in prison.
