Family, friends and admirers are mourning the death of a beloved figure in the Sylva community who passed away last week. Brenda Oliver Holt was elected to a seat on Sylva Town Council in 1981 and became the first woman to hold the position. She served there for over a decade before running for and winning her first mayoral race. Holt served as mayor from 1992 to 2009. She was 80 years old.
