HIGHLANDS – A section of U.S. 64 in the Cullasaja (cool-uh-SAY-juh) Gorge will be closed for five days next week. The N.C. Department of Transportation said in a press release that a support wall along a section of road needs to be replaced to prevent catastrophic failure and a long-term closure of the highway, and to safely conduct the repairs U.S. 64 will be closed from Buck Creek Road to Brush Creek Road starting at 8 a.m. on June 6. This section of highway in Macon County will reopen by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 10.
