New APD ‘citizens watch’ program nets multiple arrests

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – A new program launched by the Asheville Police Department (APD) has resulted in charges brought against more than 20 people. APD announced on Monday that its Intern Unit, a program where newer officers work with veteran detectives in the Criminal Investigations Unit, netted a total of 24 arrestes in connection with open investigations, with support from the department’s Tip411 platform “and a host of community members.” The department said in a news release that there are currently 12 officers and two sergeants participating in the volunteer detective internship program.
