A 12-year-old boy in Macon County is in the hospital after sustaining burns to 50% of his body. Police said in a press release that the father of the boy said on Sunday [June 26] that his son was working on a science experiment Thursday [June 23] when it exploded, catching his T-shirt on fire. The boy’s mother attempted to get the shirt off her son, and severely burned her hands. Both mother and underwent surgeries on Friday and have additional surgeries scheduled this week, the release said.
