Despite public opposition, the Waynesville town board greenlighted a 59-unit townhome development marking the seventh large-scale housing project that’s been approved since January 2021. The 59-unit subdivision would be built off East Street, across from the old hospital where residents opposed to the project urged the town to slow down, citing three other developments coming to the East Street area have them worried about traffic impacts in their community.
MEANWHILE…
A coalition of town residents concerned about the volume of large-scale development coming to Waynesville have presented a formal appeal to the planning board calling for changes to the ordinance, including lower densities. The planning board is reviewing the current zoning rules in light of the current development, officials noted.
