Improving public safety could mean Jackson County residents will be paying more in property taxes

Improving public safety could mean Jackson County residents will be paying more in property taxes. The Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad asked Jackson County Board of Commissioners to approve more money to expand the facilty, and the Sylva Fire Department asked for funding to cover a full-time staff. Property taxes would go up about $1.37 to cover the costs of the new requests, as well as a previously approved raise for Harris EMS staff.
