Prescribed burns planned in Macon County this week

FRANKLIN, NC (March 1, 2022) – The Nantahala Ranger District is planning to conduct two prescribed burns in Macon County this week. The controlled procedures are in an effort to help reduce the risk of wildfires. A 1,025-acre Split Whiteoak burn will take place Wednesday [March 2], in the Nantahala Community. Tomorrow [March 3], a 1,107-acre Hickory Branch burn will be conducted in the Nantahala Community with some street closures that day. The public should be aware of smoke and firefighter traffic in the area.
