North Carolina’s Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are going green

Cherokee, N.C. (WNCN) – North Carolina’s Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians are going green. Gov. Roy Cooper and other leaders celebrated the first fully electric school bus in North Carolina Tuesday, delivered earlier this month to Cherokee Central Schools, in what was called an environmental accomplishment for both the school system and the state. According to the Associated Press, an EPA grant is expected to help fund four additional electric school buses for the tribe’s K-12 schools, as part of the long awaited pilot program, with the goal of becoming the first school system in the state with a fully electric fleet.
