RALEIGH: Governor Roy Cooper has proclaimed this week as Severe Weather Preparedness Week through March 12. Governor Cooper encourages North Carolinians to participate in the 2022 statewide tornado drill Wednesday morning [March 9] beginning at 9:30 a.m., which will offers tips to prepare for severe weather that’s common during spring months. Test messages will be broadcast via the Emergency Alert System signaling the start of the tornado drill. In 2021, North Carolina recorded 21 tornadoes, 101 hail storms, 344 thunderstorms, and 109 flood or flash floods, including Tropical Storm Fred which caused deadly flooding in Western North Carolina.
