Few details are being released about what led to a Jackson County Detention Center inmate’s suicide attempt last week. The man was found unresponsive in his cell on Feb. 22, and taken to Mission Hospital where he was evaluated and returned to the custody of N.C. Department of Corrections a few hours later. The jail has seen three deaths by suicide among inmates in the past eight years.
