LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. – Plans to clean up Lake Junaluska will focus on removing tons of sediment that flows in from Richland Creek, with more this time due to heavy rain and flooding in August. Up to 500 dump truck loads wash into Lake Junaluska each year, leaving enough sediment to fill a super Walmart store, officials said. Lowering the water level normally starts in December, then the dredging gets under way. Lake Junaluska is receiving $1.5 million from the North Carolina General Assembly to help with the dredging.
