CANTON – Plans are moving forward for a proposed 74-unit housing development in Canton. The Canton Board of Aldermen approved a utility extension request from Civil Design Concepts on behalf of the developer planning to build 50 single-family homes and 24 townhomes on Willis Road, just north of I-40 off Champion Drive, according to a news release. Construction of the affordable workforce housing could begin in early 2023, the release states. Canton Mayor Zeb Smathers said the project is needed to help the town continue growing, and this type of development is aimed at attracting working families, which will boost the local economy.
