Gutsy granny’s challenge domestic abuse laws

HAYWOOD COUNTY, N.C. – A group of Haywood County grandmothers is calling for federal changes after the deaths of 3 children. Members of the newly formed WNC Grandparents’ Coalition said they want to hold those accountable after their grandchildren all died from domestic abuse. The gutsy granny’s say all three children were failed by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office and the North Carolina Department of Social Services, and they’re rallying for a bill to be passed that would require DSS to quickly place at-risk children in safe homes, as well as prevent the agency from avoiding accountability by hiding behind confidentiality statutes.
