Haywood is being deemed a COVID hotspot, as cases continue to climb in the county. As of Tuesday, Haywood had 194 cases, grossly surpassing the threshold for a green, or low community spread designation, which is less than 10, and the red designation, or one denoting high community spread at 25. The Omicron variant is being blamed for fueling the overwhelming numbers.
ON AN ENCOURAGING NOTE…
Hospitalizations are down in Haywood. However, officials said, with cases surging they’re not sure the lower hospitalization numbers necessarly mean a slowing of the virus.

The COVID-19 free testing site in Haywood is doing well. The site operates Wednesday through Sunday. You can make an appointment through the county website or over the phone.
