Gov. Roy Cooper announced in a Sunday press conference that more than 20 counties in the state have declared states of emergency. “Conditions are dangerous in many areas,” and “there already have been a number of wrecks,” Cooper said. The North Carolina Department of Transportation recommends you stay home Monday [Jan. 16].
MEANWHILE…
Heavy snowfall, combined with sleet and freezing rain Sunday caused dangerous, icy road conditions, and although you’re advised to stay home if you can, officials say motorists will be greeted with hazardous driving conditions on Monday morning’s commute. NCDOT has sent out alerts notifying travelers that many roads across Rutherford, Transylvania, Haywood, Jackson, Polk, Swain, McDowell, Madison, Henderson, Macon and Yancey counties are currently covered in snow and ice.
