ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) – A Franklin man remains in federal custody awaiting sentencing after he was convicted last week [Jan. 6] in an April 2020 arson case. A federal jury in Asheville found Casey Lee Evans, 42, guilty of setting a fire in the Nantahala National Forest that burned for several days and scorched about 70 acres of federal land and 20 acres of private property according to court documents. Evans faces up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine when he is sentenced.
