Couple facing multiple charges in traffic stop turned drug bust in Sylva

A Franklin man and a Cashiers woman are facing multiple charges following a routine traffic stop turned drug bust last week [Jan. 5] in which the daring duo allegedly tried to elude police. David Charles Roberts, 41, and Amanda Lee Mezyk, 33, were pulled over on Jan. 5, by Sylva Police on Asheville Highway, and the driver backed into and struck the officer’s patrol car, before both fled on foot, with one of them running into a nearby grocery store, before they were apprhended. During the traffic stop SPD seized three grams of heroin, according to court documents. Both remained jailed on a more than $30,000 bond each.
