Car mysteriously burst into flames at Woodland Inn

Several reports of a fire at the Woodland Inn, on U.S. 23/441 Sunday turned out to be a car that mysteriously burst into flames. Authorities say a resident had backed her car up to the front door of her apartment to unload the trunk, and about 10 minutes later it suddenly caught on fire. Because the vehicle was parked near the building, crews said the heat from the blaze melted the siding, but was quickly extinguished before it spread. No injuries were reported, and no residents were displaced, according to reports. Units from Sylva, Cullowhee, Qualla and Mountain Valley (Macon County) provided mutual aid.
