Tourism in Jackson County is showing no signs that the COVID-19 pandemic has adversely affected the economy. Tourism and Development Authority Director Nick Breedlove presented an update on TDA efforts to county commissioners at their Dec. 14 work session, and the numbers he provided showed positive changes in the county’s tourism numbers and their impact on the county’s economy. Jackson County is number two in Western North Carolina for tourism spending with 292 million visitor dollars spent in the past year behind Buncombe County’s $1.4 billion. That spending created a job for 2,141 people in the county, officials boasted.
