Qualla Fire Department being commended for quick actions that saved three kittens

The Qualla Fire Department is being commended for their quick actions that saved three kittens trapped in a house fire in the Barkers Creek community on Sunday. The department was the first unit called, and when they arrived at the Sycamore Drive home in the Piney Mountain neighborhood the owner said the cat might have birthed the kittens, now three weeks old, in the attic. Crews heard the meows coming from the ceiling and were able to bring the newborn animals to safety, along with help from the multiple other agencies, including the Sylva Fire Department. The kittens are now waiting for a fur-ever home.
