Haywood County officials discuss how to spend $6.1 million of federal funding

The question of how to spend $6.1 million of federal funding remains unanswered in Haywood County. The money is part of the $1 trillion American Rescue Plan designated not only to meet immediate pandemic response needs, but to make long-term investments in the recovery of local communities. Even though the county’s check is in the bank, and another $6.1 million is on the way next May, the county said, the pending final rules from the U.S. Department of Treasury on how the money can be spent, have delayed any firm decisions on distributing the monies. The town managers indicated, however, infrastructure is high on the list.
