Possession of fentanyl is now a felony due to amendments to the state’s controlled substances act. Gov. Roy Cooper recently signed Senate Bill 321 into law, resulting in several changes to North Carolina’s controlled substances act. Sylva Police Chief Chris Hatton welcomed the crackdown and said he hopes the change will act as a deterrent.
