Jackson County continues mandatory mask policy

At its meeting this week the Jackson County Board of Education decided to continue the mandatory mask policy for students and staff at the county’s nine schools. The board voted unanimously at the July 27 meeting to require masks at schools. School Superintendent Dana Ayers on Sept. 7 amended the policy to add indoor sporting events. Gov. Roy Cooper on Aug. 30 signed a law mandating school boards vote each month on their mask policies. The school system currently has 17 students who are positive for COVID and two staff members, and over 100 students are quarantined, she said.
