BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. – FEMA announced they have extended the deadline for public assistance applications for some WNC counties that were impacted by Tropical Storm Fred. Churches and nonprofits in Buncombe, Haywood and Transylvania counties may be eligible for FEMA Public Assistance, and the agency is trying to get the word out to houses of worship and private nonprofits to help them apply for financial assistance, as well as low-interest loans to restore and rebuild from the damage to their facilities caused by Fred. The deadline to apply for FEMA Public Assistance in Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Madison, Transylvania, Yancey or Watauga Counties is Oct. 22, 2021. The deadline for Ashe, Graham, Jackson or Mitchell counties is Oct. 31, 2021.
