MACON COUNTY, N.C. – Two Western NC lawmakers want to change how NC Education Lottery funds are doled out. The move comes after some mountain counties appeared to have been shut out of millions in North Carolina Education Lottery funds, which were created to help “supplement” school budgets to build schools. Opponents say the tier criteria prevents many North Carolina school districts from getting the money, because of what some have dubbed an ‘unfair’ tier ranking system.
