MACON COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) – Two people were detained after a routine traffic stop turned police chase in Macon County Tuesday afternoon [Sept. 28]. Authorities say a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported as stolen and the driver sped off prompting a police pursuit in which two individuals exited the vehicle and were apprehended, according to a media release. Police said they were able to identify the driver involved in the chase that ended when the suspect crashed in the Echo High area of Macon County down the mountainous area through the woods. The investigation is continuing, the release stated.
