Jackson County COVID cases continue to climb

Jackson County recorded at least four more COVID-19 deaths over the last week. Recently released data show there were over 60 cases in Jackson on Sept. 14, with more than 90 the day before. The county’s previous high was 101 last September. The Jackson County Department of Public Health now offers additional doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Unvaccinated people are more than 10 times more likely to be hospitalized than those who have been vaccinated, and 11 times more likely to die of the virus, according to a CDC study

MEANWHILE…

Health experts have been troubled by an increase in COVID-19 infections in children. According to a weekly report from the American Academy of Pediatrics, nearly 5.3 million children have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began. As of Wednesday morning, Jackson County Public Schools reported 85 students infected with the virus, and three staff and non-staff positive cases were also recorded.
