Embattled DWA struggles to regain its footing

As the embattled Downtown Waynesville Association struggles to regain its footing, board member resignations last week, along with increased scrutiny from the Waynesville town governing board, may signal the clock is running out for an internal solution. At a recent special-called meeting, the Waynesville Board of Aldermen voted to give the organization 90 days to complete specific tasks before considering a contract to administer municipal service district tax proceeds.

Waynesville Main Street merchants hold a variety of views about the Downtown Waynesville Association that’s supported by tax revenue collected from property owners in the district. Some are more familiar with the internal struggles of the organization than others, but all agree the events DWA used to organize brought people to Main Street and were good for business.
