Swain County man arrested on murder charges in connection to fatal wreck

A Swain County man has been arrested on murder charges eight months after a wreck in Jackson County took two lives. Jacob Neal Wilnoty, 27, of Cherokee is facing two felony counts of second-degree murder in the death of a 29-year old mother and her 5-year-old daughter who were passengers in his vehicle, who were killed after police say Wilnoty intentionally drove into a tree, near Olivet Church Road and Old Mission Road last Jan., according to arrest warrants. The case remains open, authorities said. Wilnoty faces up to 393 months in prison.
