New Health Sciences Center at SWC gearing up for first day of classes

The new Health Sciences Center at Southwestern Community College received its Certificate of Occupancy last week. Crews scrambled to get all the new state-of-the-art medical equipment for the labs and classrooms installed in time for the students first day of classes this week [August 16]. The new 55,411 square feet facility will be home to numerous health sciences-related training programs including surgical technology, respiratory therapy, medical sonography, radiography, and emergency medical science. There will be numerous labs for hand therapy, a pediatric therapy gym, anatomy and physiology, and nursing. The new facility will create openings for about 140 students this year and twice that next year. It will also free up space in the Balsam Center for the health-related programs now in that facility to expand. An open house is planned for early October.
