Some Jackson County residents struggling to pay rent during the pandemic are getting a helping hand. The CDC has issued a new moratorium on evictions throughout the country and tenants can not be thrown out for nonpayment of rent, Pisgah Legal Services’ Homelessness Prevention Program staff said. The CDC’s previous moratorium lapsed July 31, leaving renters scrambling to find housing. The new order expires Oct. 3 and applies only to counties deemed COVID hotspots.
