The nonprofit agency that serves Jackson County’s homeless population says the time has come for a dedicated homeless shelter in the county. Housing Equity Resources and Education, or HERE, is headed up by Bob Cochran, who says HERE currently purchases hotel rooms, which is very costly. It would be cheaper, he said to dedicate the county’s money to a standalone homeless shelter. Most of the time, Cochran says most people facing homelessness in Jackson County actually come from outside the county because they know that they can get a hotel room in Jackson County.
