The Jackson County school board has named a new superintendent of schools. Dr. Dana Ayers will begin her new duties on June 1st. Ayers was chosen from a competitive field of 21 applicants. A statement from the school board says Ayers has more than 20 year experience in North Carolina public schools and comes here from Asheville City Schools, where she cirrently serves as the Chief Academic Officer. In here career, she has served public school students as a principal, assistant principal of instruction, and a teacher. The school board drafted a four year contract for Ayers. Dr. Tony Tipton has been serving as interim superintendent for JCPS since the retirement of Kim Elliott last September.
